This is another sign of how Biden will handle relationships with Republican governors. Moreover, Biden spoke over the phone with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, about the winter storm that devastated the lives of thousands of residents of Texas. White House released a readout that claims that there are no necessities of life for residents of Texas.

Biden however told the federal government that continues to work hand-in-hand with state and local authorities” and promised to “instruct federal agencies to look into any immediate steps that could be taken to support Texans.” He further added that his administration is “at the ready should the State of Texas or any other impacted region need additional federal disaster support or assistance,” according to the readout released by White house.

Abbott has placed himself as an early adversary to Biden, signing an executive order just eight days into the president’s term to “direct every state agency to use all lawful powers and tools to challenge any federal action” that risks Texas’ energy sector.

However, the winter storm hit Texas earlier this week and harshly disturbing its energy capacity, Abbott, along with Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), requested federal aid from Biden, which he approved later.

Moreover, Trump always view the disaster through an ideological lens, he advised last April that COVID-19 relief should include “sanctuary city adjustments” as a way of punishing more liberal cities for pro-immigration policies.

However, Former Homeland Security official Miles Taylor rumored that Trump withheld the wildfire aid to California in 2018, over his grudges to the governor and that people in the state of California didn’t support him”, it was because of the state’s “radical environmental policies.”

Cruz, also a vocal opponent of the Biden administration, said in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity “I joined with John Cornyn in urging Joe Biden to declare a federal disaster to mirror the governor’s request which President Biden, did”

440,000 Texans were still lacking power on Thursday afternoon, over 12 million still facing problems with water service amidst freezing temperatures,

However, during a closed-door meeting with state and local officials of both parties, Biden did not argue when Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, spoke opposition to Biden’s desire to have a minimum wage hike as part of a COVID-19 relief package, Biden was attempting to corral bipartisan support for his plan.
