The third wave of corona has taken over the world, including Brazil. The hospitals in the country are crowded and there is no space left for more patients. The country’s total death toll is now almost 337,000, second only to the US.

The president, however, as opposed to the imposition of the lockdown. Bolsonaro is of the view that the impact of the virus on the economy would be more than the virus itself. The downtrodden economy cannot be recovered.

Speaking to supporters outside the presidential residence on Tuesday, he criticized quarantine measures and suggested without evidence that they were linked to obesity and depression. He did not comment on the 4,195 deaths recorded in the previous 24 hours.

To date, Brazil has recorded more than 13 million cases of coronavirus, according to the health ministry. Some 66,570 people died with Covid-19 in March, more than double the previous monthly record.

Brazil is facing a unique type of virus variant called the P.1. It is more contagious and causes severe symptoms of infections. The new variant emerged in Amazonas state in November 2020. It then spread to the state capital Manaus, where it accounted for 73% of cases by January 2021, according to figures analyzed by researchers in Brazil. Brazil must focus on immediate lockdown before it gets too late to control the situation.
