Google has reportedly removed Palestine from the world map but the country was never labeled on the service.

It has claimed that the state never existed on the map before. The map only showed a borderline marking Israel. Almost 136 members of the United Nations recognize Palestine as a separate state. However, the US and other Western countries do not.

The representation of Palestine on Google Maps has not changed recently, but after the forum of Palestinian journalists released a statement condemning Google. The news circulated like fire on social media. People have started a trend on social media sites saying #PalestineIsHere.

The Google spokesman said that it never existed on the world map. However, there has been a bug that is responsible for removing the Gaza strip and West Bank from the map. Also, the authorities are working keenly to retrieve the labels.

A petition from March this 2020 urging Google to include Palestine on their maps have gained traction in the last few days. It now holds almost 250,000 signatures.

It is not the first time that Google has entered into hot waters regarding disputed territories. One such example is that of Russia. Users in Russia see a solid boundary line around Russia and Crimea. Outside of Russia, Crimea is surrounded by dashed lines, indicating it as occupied territory.  A 2014 project displayed how Google wants to keep itself away from the subject of disputed territories. Moreover, it does not want to interfere with the national identity of the states.

The internet is going crazy over the act of Google. It is now to see how fast Google overcome this issue.
