Rockets have hit near the Afghan presidential palace during prayers.

Muslims were offering Eid-ul-Azha’s prayers, during which the rocket hit hard. President Ashraf Ghani continued to offer his prayers outside. Three rockets landed outside the palace, said interior ministry spokesperson Mirwais Stanekzai, adding that there were no immediate reports of injuries.

Taliban insurgents denied responsibility for the attack. Unlike some previous years, the Taliban have not officially declared a ceasefire for Eid this week.

Insurgents have for years fired rockets into the city now and then, usually inflicting only minor damage and few if any casualties. However, it now seems that any other faction, outside Afghanistan, is trying to destabilize the peace of the country.

The US has withdrawn the majority of its troops from Afghan soil. The remaining will be pulled out by Aug 31. The US, however, has negotiated with Qatar to maintain its air bases to keep a check on Afghanistan.
