The United States has promised to reinstate sanctions on Tehran regarding arms embargo.

The declaration came after a day when the UNSC rejected the US’s request to extend Iran’s sanction on the arms embargo. The deal is to expire in October this year. Trump announced to do a snapback next week.

The US claims that it has been a participant of the 2015 nuclear deal and therefore, can repose any further sanctions on it. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the US had failed to kill off what he called the “half alive” deal with major powers that gave Iran relief from sanctions in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

Only two of the Council’s 15 members voted in favor of the US resolution seeking to extend the embargo, highlighting the division between Washington and its European allies since Trump withdrew from the nuclear accord in 2018. The Europeans on the Council all abstained, and Iran mocked the Trump administration for winning the support of just one other country.

The United States has, however, showed disappointment for not getting majority votes. However, it has said to bounce back.
