The UK has announced to suspend extradition treaty with Hong Kong in light of new security laws in the region.

China has often raised warnings that Britain was making grave foreign policies to affect its neighboring states. He also announced an extension to Hong Kong of an arms embargo of “potentially lethal weapons” already in force against China for the last three decades. Diplomatic relations between London and Beijing are also fraying. Moreover, serious violations of civil rights and liberties could be seen in the West.

China threatened Britain as it loosened the immigration rules for Hong Kongers with British overseas passports and citizenship. Britain claims to get actively involved with China after its role in world affairs. But a positive relationship with a country that had international obligations as a global player also included the right to disagree.

The security law had significantly impacted the extradition treaty, particularly a provision to try certain cases in mainland China. However, the law lacks in providing judicial safeguards. Therefore, the British government has immediately suspended the extradition treaty. China claims that the UK is under the Unites States pressure in terms of business. Moreover, London is a puppet to US foreign policy over Huawei. This happened after Washington slapped sanctions on the Chinese firm’s access to US chips vital to its 5G networks.

The issue is likely to affect the diplomatic ties between the two at large. The new security law has already sparked its unwanted impacts on both nations.
