UK medicine regulator has approved Pfizer vaccine for 12 to 15 years old.

Before the trial, Pfizer has not considered a safe vaccine for children. However, it is now approved by health regulatory. The trial was undertaken to check its working on small age groups.  The final decision would be up to the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation to decide whether this age group would come under the vaccine deployment program.

More than 2,000 children were involved in the clinical trial to determine the safety of the Pfizer vaccine, the chair of the Commission on Human Medicines, Prof Sir Munir Pirmohamed, said. “We have been very careful to take into consideration the younger age group and the benefits of this population being vaccinated against any potential risk of side-effects.

Pfizer was considered as the one having a heavy dose for children. Although the UK has successfully vaccinated more than half of its population. But there is still a need for vaccination addressing the younger generation. The inoculations for the children will begin soon.
